Tibet is the roof of the world, the land of myth and magic and the last Shangri La. It has a magnificent geography comprising of Himalayas, passes, unique biodiversity, valleys, rivers, lakes and plains which makes up for some of world’s most challenging routes. We will be riding on single track, donkey trails and highways, downhill and uphill, down the hills from sunrise till sunset.

Day 1

Arrive in Kathmandu, Visit Kathmandu Durbar Square

Our representative will pick you up from the Tribhuvan International Airport and escort you to hotel for check in and further formalities. Nexus Travels & Tours will provide you detail information about your further journey. Later in the afternoon you can visit the Durbar Square which is situated in the heart of Stay overnight in a hotel in Kathmandu. It also named as Hanuman Dhoka Palace Square locally -an ancient seat of the Nepalese Royalty. The majority of the buildings you will see here date from 15th to 18th century. Some of the significant monuments you will witness here are: Taleju temple, Jagannath temple, Kal Bhairav, Kumari Ghar, Kasthamandap - built from the timber of a single tree.

Day 2

Fly from Kathmandu to Tibet & Acclimatize

 You will take the morning flight to Lhasa. In a little over one hour, the Kathmandu - Lhasa air journey envelops rugged topography that once took trade caravans months to cross. The views are spectacular, as many as eight of the world's 14 highest peaks - including Everest – will be just before you.

 

At the Lhasa airport, you will be transferred to your hotel in Lhasa for a relaxing adjustment to the altitude. Stay overnight in Lhasa.

Day 3

Sightseeing in and around Lhasa

In the morning, you will be visiting the famous Potala Palace and explore the grandest of its countless chapel. You will appreciate its audience halls, the jeweled – golden burial chortens (stupa Tombs) of past Dalai Lamas and tremendous number of Buddhist frescoes, thangkas, amalgamation of mandala, etc. Later in the afternoon, you will visit the holist temple in Tibet, the Johkang Temple, built during Songtsen Gonpo's supremacy by princess Wencheng of Tang Dynasty, 647 A.D, and its famous Barkor Kora Tibetan based location.

Day 4

Sightseeing in and around Lhasa

Today you will be visiting two important monasteries in Lhasa, the Drepung and the Sera. Drepung monastery is positioned at the foothill of a mountain and was founded by Jamyang Choeje in 1416. It was once the residence to 10000 monks and Ganden Podrang. Drepung is eminent as it was the government centre and later was moved to the famous Potala palace during the 5th Dalai Lama. After having your lunch, you will continue the sightseeing to visit the Sera Monastery, which was founded by Tsongkapa's disciple Jamchen Choeje in 1419. The most striking Buddhist Scriptures debating held in the courtyard.

Day 5

Short ride out of Lhasa (85 km)

The first biking day is very short and easy. Your journey towards Everest starts with the Friendship Highway as it heads out across the plateau. You will leave Lhasa and cycle along the beautiful Tsangpo River to the foothills of the Kamba La Pass (3700 m).

Day 6

Ride from Lhasa to Yamdrok Tso via Kamba La Pass (55 km)

On today’s biking trail you will triumph over the first mountain pass of the trip. A strong uphill ascending along a tar road of several switchbacks, you will reach a summit generously decorated with prayer flags (4794m). After descending you will continue biking along Lake Yamdrok Tso, at the far side of which your guide will indicate a spot to set up camp (4490m). The dazzlingly turquoise green Yamdrok-Tso Lake is one of the three great holy lakes in Tibet.

Day 7

Ride from Yamdrok Tso to Karo La Pass Base (54 km)

After Leaving the beautiful lake behind, you will cycle along the Friendship Highway which soon converts into a gravel roadway. Through a ravine and up to the foot of the Karo La Pass (4750m), your tented village will be prepared for the night.

Day 8

Ride from Karo La Pass to Gyantse (86 km)

Today is a significant day of the tour. You will get up early to climb the high Karo La Pass (5010m). You can observe glaciers stretching down to 6000m and beautiful lakes. You are rewarded with a night in a top hotel in the city of Gyantse (3980m).

Day 9

Ride from Gyantse to Shigatse (94 km)

You will first visit the Gyantse Dzong and Gyantse Kumbum. The Dzong is a fort dating from the 14th century and the Kumbum, a large golden-domed stupa with several small chapels, surrounds an impressive collection of Tibetan Buddhist wall paintings. You will then head out to the highway towards Shigatse. Even if today will be a long cycling day, the highway is tarred and flat. In the afternoon you will arrive in Tibet's second largest city Shigatse (3860m).

Day 10

Ride around Gyachung Monastery (75 km):

Today you will get up early to visit Tashilhunpo Monastery, where you can glimpse the well preserved largest statue of Jampa (future God) in the world. The monastery itself is an enduring place for the successive Penchen Lamas. You will then leave to Shigatse and ride over two small passes and several small Tibetan villages, you will also pass the isolated Gyachung Monastery.

Day 11

Ride from Gyachung Monastery to Lhatse (95 km)

You will keep riding along the highway. The course leads you through pictographic valleys before the long route which leads over the Tso-La (4520m). After lunch you will head towards Lhatse wherein you will pass the hot springs and camp about 10km outside of town.

Day 12

Ride from Lhatse to Shegar (75 km):

Today you will ride over the 5220m Gyatso-La with spectacular view. You will be pleased with first view of Mount Everest. After a 40 km ride through flat prairie settlement, you will arrive in the township of Pelbar which is often referred to as Shegar. Shegar is a popular stopover for anyone heading to the Everest region. Today will be a long and strenuous ride through the canyon.

Day 13

Ride from Shegar to Rongbuk Valley via Pang Pass (67 km)

Today's riding is a little bumpy as the road condition is not as good as that of the past days tour. You will redirect off the flat highway just outside of Shegar and then cycle towards the world's highest peak Mt. Everest. After passing through the border control point, you will face 20km of uphill switchbacks before reaching the apex of the Pang Pass (5150m). Your trophy of the uphill struggle will be some of the most outstanding views of Everest and adjacent peaks. You will be blessed with the clear view of Makalu (8463m), Shishapangma (8012m), Cho Oyu (8210m), Lhotse (8516m), Everest (8850m) and several other astounding peaks. You will then ride of 20-kilometer downhill following to the Rongbuk Valley (4200m).

Day 14

Rongbuk Monastery (35 km)

You should be at utmost fitness and thrilled about the approach of your highest destination Everest Base Camp. You will ride a bumpy road facing winds up through the Rongbuk valley until you get a glance of the majestic Mount Everest. You will camp beside the monastery with the unforgettable vision of the world's highest peak in front of you. Your stay at this destination will be for two days.

Day 15

Rongbuk Monastery (35 km):

On your second day, you can either enjoy reading a book or get even closer to Everest by taking a walk, cycling or boarding the local donkey and cart ride to Everest base camp, which is 8km from your campsite.

Day 16

Ride from Rongbuk to Tingri (86 km)

You will leave Rongbuk heading back down the bumpy road and then take a shortcut into the mountains. You will descend yet another bumpy trail taking you over a canyon and down till Tingri (4340m).

 

Stay overnight in Tingri.

Day 17

Ride from Tingri via Lalung Pass (77 km)

Your ride today will be exciting as when you begin the trail it will be with a 40 to 50km flat ride before lunch. After lunch you will tackle the gradual incline of the Lalung Pass (4990m). You will later set up tents in the valley between two passes.

Day 18

Cross Thang Pass to Gyirong (117 km):

This will be our last day in Tibet. Today you will get engage in your last uphill route as you cycle up the incredible Thang Pass to 5050m, you will be treated with breathtaking views of the Himalayan chain as you will now be on freewheel through the most incredible nonstop downhill. After the town of Nyalam, you will observe that the scenery starts to turn green again. Cycle down beyond countless waterfalls and pine trees line roads, with waterfalls practically crashing over you, to the border town of Gyirong (2300m).

 

Stay overnight in Gyirong.

Day 19

Ride from Gyirong to Dhulikhel (97km)

From Gyirong, you will need to pass through customs and into Nepal. Once you are in the territory of Nepali town of Kodari, the ride descends downhill and continues for the next 50 km along some very bumpy and rocky roads. Suddenly the weather changes into tropical and humid. You will continue the wonderful ride alongside rice paddies. After reaching the town of Dolalghat, your ride will ascend to the town Dhulikhel (1600m).

 

Stay overnight in Dhulikhel .

Day 20

Ride from Dhulikhel to Kathmandu via Bhaktapur - (35 km)

The last day will procure the trail you from Dhulikhel to Kathmandu. You ride now will be freewheel glide down through Bhaktapur. You can possibly stop and see some of the town's famous temples if you wish, before riding into bustling Kathmandu. In the late afternoon, you can relax or go for sightseeing to the other UNESCO world heritage sites in and around Kathmandu. You can also choose to stroll around Thamel and procure some souvenirs for your loved ones back home.

 

Stay overnight at Hotel.

Day 21

Depart from Kathmandu

Our representative will drop you to the International airport for your final departure to home or your next preferred destination.
