Muktinath Mountain Biking Tours is a spiritual adventurous journey to sacred Muktinath (Chumig Gyatsa) temple revered by both Buddhists and Hindus. This is a scenic journey through the bank of Kali Gandaki  and into the laps of Annapurna and Dhaulagiri mountains.

 

The journey begins from Jomsom, a 2 hour drive away from Pokhara. Jomsom, the headquarters of Mustang district is the starting point of the biking journey. The trail goes via Kagbeni, another town of Thakali community  famous for Apple brandy and Thakali cuisine.

 

The bike trails are a mix of mud, rock, gravel and asphalt encompassing an array of choices from cross country and mountain to highways and city alleys. You will have plenty of time to spend in Muktinath, visit the eternal  flame and sacred 108 water spouts. Further you will head towards Tukuche and then to Tatopani  where you can relax dipping in natural hot spring.

Day 1

Kathmandu to Pokhara - Exploring Pokhara:

Depart from the beautiful city of Kathmandu behind, and proceed towards next amazing city Pokhara. The city of lakes, Pokhara has a lot to offer. The beautiful sunrise from Sarangkot is unmatched, as well as the perfect ride around the lakes. Make yourself relaxing and loosen up at Pokhara. The 7-hour drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara may leave you tired. 

Day 2

Fly from Pokhara to Jomsom(2743m). Bike to Kagbeni(2804m):

The flight from Pokhara to Jomsom is only for about 25min and is normally available only in the morning. You’ll experience different terrain and landscapes compared to Pokhara in Jomsom. The wind is strong, and the dry land feels lonely at the outset. If you have a biker’s eye, you already will notice the single tracks and tough trails, by now.

 

You will then assemble your bike, gears, and start exploring Jomsom. Ride through the streets of Jomsom and its valley. You can ride on the lap of huge mountains. You will then continue your ride along the bank of Kaligandaki towards Kagbeni. Kagbeni embraces a traditional lifestyle and culture for you to delve into. You will be glad to receive a warm welcome from the locals, experiencing some traditional Tibetan culture.

Day 3

Bike from Kagbeni to Muktinath(3800):

You will have a lovely breakfast, and get ready for an adventurous ride for the day. The landscape you ride through today will be awe-inspiring. Some trails today might be rough and rocky yet, but isn’t that the best part of mountain biking. This ride on the banks of the peaceful Kaligandaki River will give you chills. You will be pleased with some of the largely beautiful sights alongside your life changing journey. The desert-like region will give you the feeling of making your blood rushing and giving you a kick to do more.

 

You will arrive at Jharkot (3519m) a small town at the bank of Kaligandaki. This place is yet another highlight of this tour. It is a hidden jewel that offers you stunning views of the Himalayas, and exclusive civilization. After passing this beautiful town, you will reach Muktinath. You will come across many travelers and pilgrims visiting Muktinath. You can feel free to explore this beautiful place. If you are not too tired, you can take a spin on your bike. You can find some challenging tracks in the hills.

Day 4

Ride from Muktinath to Tukuche(2586m):

After your breakfast at some local hotel, you will continue your journey ahead leaving Muktinath behind. You’ll ride through the Muktinath pass (4000m). The descending ride from Muktinath is thrilling and will give you goosebumps. Some rocky single tracks really are hair rising. 

 

 

Biking alongside the Kali Gandaki River you will make a quick stop at a small town called Marpha (2670m). Marpha is a local town where people practices apple farming, they produce huge amount of apples every year here. This place offers you a variety of dishes prepared from the same apple. The dried apple skin is a unique eatery, and you should definitely try it. If you are keen about the products, tasting the locally made apple brandy might just be the answer to your exhausted body. You can also call it a day in Marpha as well yet Nexus Travels & Tours suggests you to move forward towards Tukuche.

 

 

After a short downhill ride from Marpha, you will arrive at Tukuche. Tukuche has a interesting history and culture. This place is mostly adapted by an ancient tribe called “Thakali.” Explore this beautiful village that lies beneath the Dhaulagiri and Tukuche peak. You can outlook the astounding sight of Mt. Nilgiri and Dhaulagiri. Tonight you can try the Thakali food prepared by the locals. Thakali food is one of the most popular foods in Nepal.

Day 5

Ride to Tatopani(1190m):

Today you will ride through some spectacular effortless track from Tukuche. Tatopani means “Hot Water.” And as the name suggests, the water here is temperate. The hot springs here are just the right place to unwind your mind and body. Treat yourself with the natural hot and relaxing bath, in this naturally gifted place. You will have a great rest in here, loosen up your aching muscle and relax with a spectacular view of landscapes.

Day 6

Ride to Beni, and drive to Pokhara:

Beni is a small town in the Dhaulagiri Zone which acquire lots of tourists annually. The downward ride from Tatopani to Beni is short and sweet. You can have delicious lunch at Beni, and carry on your journey towards Pokhara. You can relax at Pokhara, ride a boat, and get a massage upon your interest. A full body massage would be perfect after all your activities for past 5 day’s activities. 

Day 7

Drive back to Kathmandu:

You will have breakfast early morning and drive to Kathmandu by tourist coach, which takes about 6hrs. During the drive, you can enjoy the mountain views, green sceneries, rice terrace fields, vegetable fields and people being engaged in their daily life actions. As you ascend from Naubishe till Thankot, you enter the gateway to the capital city Kathmandu.
